Requirements for filing applications in Iceland

TRADEMARKS in Iceland,

  1. Full name and address of the applicant(s)
  2. Trademark, word, logo, device, etc.
  3. Descriptions of goods and services to be covered within the classes of the International Classification.
  4. If priority is claimed, information of filing country, date of application and number. Priority documents only upon request.

Renewals: A  Trademark Registration is valid for 10 years from the date of registration, trademark can be renewed for 10 years at a time upon payment of fees. Application for renewal  can be made 6 months prior to end of registration period and must be filed within 6 months from end of the registration  period.

PATENTS, International, entering into the National Phase in Iceland.

  1. Full names and addresses of applicant(s) and inventor(s),
  2. Title of invention, abstract, descriptions, claims, drawings,
  3. Assignment of invention, if inventor(s) not the same as applicant,
  4. Priority, if claimed, the number , date and country of the international application.
  5. Copy of the original PCT application (front page),
  6. Translation into Icelandic language of title, abstract and claims is required.  We arrange for translation. All other documents can be in English or Scandinavian languages.

EUROPEAN  PATENT validation in Iceland:

  1. Front page of the European patent, indicating number and name of applicant etc.
  2. Must be filed within 4 months from mention of the grant,
  3. Title and claims must be in Icelandic language other documents can be in English.
  4. Payment of official fees.

DESIGNS, registration in Iceland,

  1. Full name and address of the applicant and the designer(s),
  2. Title of design,
  3. Description of  the design, maximum 150 words,
  4. Priority information, if applicable,
  5. Copy of each picture / drawings of the design, max size A4,
  6. Assignment if the applicant is not the same as designer, original signature, no legalization, must be filed within 3 weeks from application,
  7. Application must be in Icelandic language, we arrange for translation,
  8. Classification according to the Locarno Agreement, (obtainable on Icelandic Laws page).

POWER of ATTORNEY, is usually needed, but then only with original signature, no legalization and can be filed some weeks after filing application.
